A Lot of Events for Marketers to Consider This Month

From Waffles to Low Cholesterol

Well, September has come and that means a lot of different things to a lot of different types of retailers. Yahoo has posted a nice list of different events to keep in mind on the Yahoo Search Marketing Blog.

According to Yahoo, September is the month for:

- Apples
– Fall hats
– Low Cholesterol
– Low-fat Pizza
– Mold awareness
– Chicken
– Coupons
– Honey
– Mushroom
– Oranic Harvest
– Prime Beef
– Pianos
– "Pleasuring Mate"
– Animal remembrance

Yahoo says there are also week-long holidays like:

- National Waffle Week
– Constitution Week
– National Assisted Living Week
– Line Dance Week
– Child Passenger Safety Week
– Deaf Awareness Week
– National Singles Week
– Dating sites
– Tolkien Week
– American Massage Therapy Week
– Banned Books Week

There are apparently also one-day events like:

- V-J Day
– Oatmeal Day
– Salami Day
– World Physical Therapy Day
– physical therapy
– Popcorn Day
– Video Games Day
– International Chocolate Day
– National Grandparent’s Day
– Air Force Birthday
– Chiropractic Founders Day
– International Eat an Apple Day
– Responsible Dog Ownership Day
– National White Chocolate Day
– National One-Hit-Wonder Day
– R.E.A.D. in America Day

I must admit, I was not aware of most of these events (if any). You could try to focus on any applicable items in your marketing efforts, but to me the whole thing seems to indicate that it may be a good idea to start your own event based on something you sell.

I have to assume that national white chocolate day was created by a business that sells white chocolate. I could be wrong, but it would make sense. Perhaps if you own a sunglasses shop, you could declare it something as innovative as "Sunglasses Day."

What do you think? Respond.
