CBIZ Finds Small Biz Employment Up In March

Employment Index increases by 0.69 percent

It’s a rare month when everyone can agree whether things took a turn for the better or for the worse, but with respect to March, there’s now one more vote for "better."  The CBIZ Small Business Employment Index indicates that small businesses were able to hire new workers.

An official statement on the matter revealed earlier today, "The March CBIZ Small Business Employment Index, a barometer for hiring trends among companies with 300 or fewer employees, increased by .69 percent through the month, after posting an increase of .25 percent in February."

Philip Noftsinger, business unit president for CBIZ Payroll Services, then added, "This month showed a continuing positive trend in small business employment levels.  This data, combined with other recently released reports showing positive growth, sends a strong signal that although slow, there is reason to be positive about a labor market recovery in the near term."

CBIZ handles payroll services for about 3,000 American small businesses, by the way, so its stats and Noftsinger’s conclusions should be based on fairly solid information.

Now we just get to cross our fingers and hope that CBIZ (along with other organizations) sees more good things of this sort happen in April.
