Drupal is a very complex solution
When looking fo a ecommerce solution, most poeple tend to forget the systems that are often branded as Content Managenemt Systems. But if you look at ecommerce Soultions, you will see that the biggest part o a shopping cart system is a CMS.
Recently i worked with Drupal a lot. In my ecommerce blog i analyzed many ecommerce systems, and i have to say that Drupal is a very powerful ecommerce solution. It's easy to develope a basic cart system, but the true power comes when you need a system away from the normal usage. Drupal is a framework, and i would really recommend anyone looking for a ecommerce solution to take a look at drupal.
Basically there are two big projects for making Drupal ecommerce capable:
Ubercart

Ecommerce

Just don't forget the CMS side when you look for the right system.
Trend Towards More SEO Friendly Platforms
These days, ecommerce s/w providers are focusing more and more on delivering SEO friendly solutions, and rightly so, since building a profitable (very profitable) business online from internet traffic, particularly from Search Engines is real, and doable.
Here's some inforamtion which providers should seriously consider to offer the SEO advantage that would surely benefit business owners:
- custom defined urls, with the possiblity of in the root directory (the Yahoo! Store is one that offers this capability)
- what several solutions are already offering => static urls
- ability to 301 redirect any url on site to other urls
- auto generated metas with the ability to overwrite
- contents above the navigation in the html code, and minimal code bloat
- no session IDs
- no duplicate content (many solutions has duplicate content when the same product is placed in different categories)
