Federal Reserve Gov. Speaks Of Small Biz Improvements

High-ranking figure believes optimism is increasing

This may be either a good or a bad thing, depending on your point of view, but it seems at least one person in the government believes the lot of small businesses is improving.  Federal Reserve Governor Elizabeth Duke recently indicated that a positive outlook is taking hold.

As reported by Alex Kowalski, Duke said yesterday at the International Factoring Association conference, "A variety of recent survey results paints a picture of increasing optimism about future sales and business conditions and a corresponding easing of credit availability for small businesses."

Of course, as regular SmallBusinessNewz readers will know, there has also been a fair amount of data suggesting that the future isn’t so bright; conflicting surveys come out on a very regular basis.

But that may just make it all the more noteworthy that Duke chose to latch onto the "increasing optimism" set of statistics.

Indeed, that leaves the question of what sort of effect her perspective will have.  Perhaps the Federal Reserve will now stop changing interest rates for a while, letting the perceived improvements continue.  Or perhaps the organization will continue on the same path at a faster pace in an attempt to speed up the recovery.

Cross your fingers (or not) depending on what you want to happen.  It could be interesting, either way.

  1. When will these pinheads in Washington, DC stop relying on surveys of consumers/businesses to make economic predictions.  The numbers don’t lie and right now the numbers are painting a grim picture for small businesses for the foreseeable future. I know in my business it’s almost impossible to get a line of credit with the banks, even for established dental practices like my own.
