Generating Positive Publicity

How to pitch your idea to the media

Getting the media to cover your business can be quite a challenge. Media outlets get hundreds and some even thousands of story pitches each day. So, what will make your idea stand out to the media?

As explained in the above video, the media will not just cover any idea. They do not have time to go through each of their pitches and develop a story on their own. On the other hand, the business has to be creative and turn the idea into a story.

For example, a business that is expanding and opening a new location does not qualify as a good story. However, the business could host a grand opening event and invite the public, as that would qualify as a story.

An alternative option could be that the business pitches their new location as an asset to the community by creating jobs and improving the economy. Partnering with charities or holding seminars are also other methods that a business could turn their news into a real story.

Every business wants positive publicity, but it has to be willing to be creative and work hard in order to receive it.

Is your business drawing positive publicity? What tips can you offer to other businesses?
