Google Analytics Receives Government Approval

Good sign for small businesses

The organization that keeps America from turning into something out of a Mad Max movie has decided that Google Analytics is good enough for it.  Meaning now is a decent time for small business owners who don’t already use the service to reconsider their stance.

Here, as explained on the Google Analytics Blog, is a brief recap of what happened: "This week, the US federal General Services Administration (GSA) has approved listing Google Analytics in its apps.gov web site, which is a place for government agencies and services to find approved cloud computing applications."

As a result, all sorts of official departments may begin to make use of the analytics solution.  And even if they don’t, business owners can take comfort in the idea that Google Analytics passed a number of privacy- and security-related tests to receive the GSA’s support.

Indeed, as part of his blog post, Phil Mui, a senior product manager, stated, "Privacy and security are core elements of Google’s design and development processes, and we’re proud to pass that benefit on to users of Google Analytics.  Google’s security philosophy is outlined here, and Google’s commitment to protecting the information stored on its computer systems is outlined in the Google Code of Conduct."

So consider getting a better idea of how your business’s website is performing with Google Analytics.

  1. The analytics package provides incredible functionality and does so for not a dime.  That combination of functionality and free have lead to massive market share for Analytics.
