Hitwise Names Ways To Reach Mother’s Day Dawdlers

Also proves that there are tons of them

Mother’s Day is almost here, and according to Hitwise, small businesses should still have an excellent chance of making sales related to the occasion.  New stats point out how many people are procrastinators and some of the best ways for online retailers to reach them.

A key prerequisite, of course, is that you offer a product or service that can be prepared on short notice.  Even the best present in the world won’t be in especially high demand if gift-givers know it’ll arrive late.

Otherwise, Heather Dougherty explained, "Last year, there was a lift in visits of 39% during the peak as compared to the previous week.  The peak day was Thursday, May 8th and for the last 3 years, the majority of the visits have taken place on the Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday leading up to Mother’s Day."

As for how to get some of this traffic to come your way, she continued, "[W]eb-based email and search were the top drivers of traffic to the custom category of retailers.  Together these sources referred nearly half of the traffic, reinforcing their importance for retailers trying to capture Mother’s Day sales."

This information connects pretty well with the email marketing tips Chris Crum relayed earlier this week.  And if you want to know what sorts of things potential customers are thinking about, Dougherty found that the top Mother’s Day-related search terms tie to poems, gifts, crafts, cards, and quotes.
