Matt Cutts on How to Report a Problem with Google Search

Matt Cutts recently posted a video answering one guy’s problem where his website pages were showing up wrong in Google.

The exact question was:

"A few pages on our site are incorrectly being returned as video results (they are regular pages). How do we fix this?"

Here is Matt’s answer:

Basically, Matt’s general answer (while somewhat unsatisfactory) is to go to the Webmaster Help forum.

He says…

"If you have something that’s really visible like that, where you can take a picture and say, hey this is being treated as a video result and it’s a regular web page, and just click through to verify that, thats the kind of thing people notice pretty quickly."

Matt includes that posting to the forum will help you identify what is going on and coach you through the problem. And if you want to search for other helpful videos from Matt Cutts, check out Google Webmaster’s Channel on YouTube.

Also, if that isn’t satisfactory, you can also search on Google.com itself for problems with results not showing up correctly and find even more solutions.

  1. I know of at least one person who had reported that Google did not have a title for some snippets for example and it turns out that it was actually an ad block extension that they had installed which was doing unpredictable stuff to their results.

Just another "somewhat unsatisfactory" response from Google, it would seem they really don’t care what their searchers results are! They always brag about relevant results, but if this is happening, their should be someway to correct it, if they really cared.

Let’s face it if we were as rich as Google would we bother listening to our customers?!
But at some stage we’ll get bored of them not caring about us or the societies we live in – Google pays minimal tax in USA and UK despite making vast profits in both places… and we’ll work out that despite all their talk, they’re something of a one-trick-pony – they make money on Adwords; nothing else.
So, sooner or later we all have to give Yahoo or Bing some time on our screens or Google will continue to believe they’re better than us, don’t have to listen and don’t need to pay tax.
