NASE Gets In Touch With The President

Obama calls small businesses "our highest priority"

In Thursday night’s episode of "30 Rock," Will Arnett’s character revealed that he’d gained the ear of President Obama by becoming a sort of gal pal to Sasha and Malia.  But in real life, it’s rather harder to get an audience with our nation’s leader, and so you may be surprised (and glad) to hear that the National Association for the Self-Employed was able to pass along a few words.

A press release stated, "During a meeting with President Obama, the National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE) made sure to mention that micro-businesses are still facing difficulties getting access to credit and financing and that health costs are crippling the backbone of the American economy – the self-employed."

And according to the same release, the NASE’s comment didn’t appear to get waved away.  President Obama said, "I guarantee you this:  This administration is going to stand behind small businesses.  You are our highest priority because we are confident that when you are succeeding, America succeeds."

Of course, even middle schoolers know that a politician’s promises don’t always result in action; leaving aside the matter of a person’s intentions, there are a whole lot of hoops that every bill has to jump through before it becomes law.

Still, it looks like small businesses rate high enough on the White House’s scale to receive kind words and a little personal attention.
