NASE Talks About 2009 Grants

Over $95,000 distributed

The National Association for the Self-Employed apparently helped 20 of its members have a rather better 2009 than they would have otherwise experienced.  The NASE announced today that it awarded a little over $95,000 in grants to these businesses.

A formal release explained how the money was doled out (and indeed, how other small businesses can effectively get in line).  It stated, "With the Business Development Grant program, NASE Members can apply for up to $5,000 for a specific business need such as the purchase of new equipment or software, or the funding of advertising, marketing materials and training."

Robert Hughes, president of the NASE, also said, "These grants are our way of providing a little stimulus to our micro-business members.  They’re staying positive and staying focused.  They’re exhibiting the best of the entrepreneurial spirit.  And we’re pleased that the NASE grants can contribute even a small part to their ongoing success."

Of course, a little money can go a long ways, and the grants may have proven especially useful considering how banks toughened their lending standards last year.

Finally, if you’re curious, the grants were pretty evenly distributed, heading to businesses based in California, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, and Virginia.

  1. Rather than ignoring those stats, NASE chose to launch an ambitious Business Development Grant Program in order to help relieve some of the financial pressure that plagued its members.
