Official “Surviving The IRS Audit” Program On The Way

Tax agency wants to help

It may be time to put characterizations of the Internal Revenue Service as a scary, impersonal organization behind us.  Not long after Monday’s article on employment taxes was published, an extremely polite representative wrote in to recommend a program called "Surviving the IRS Audit."

On March 10th, from 2 to 3 PM ET, small business owners "can learn how to prepare for and what to expect during an audit by tuning in to the Internal Revenue Service March Tax Talk Today program," according to the IRS employee’s email.

His note then continued, "The program will include what happens before, during and after the audit as tax professionals and IRS staff talk about audits from both sides of the desk."

"Surviving the IRS Audit" will be free to watch, and users of both Windows Media Player and Adobe Flash Player are being accommodated.  Captioning is available if you’re hard of hearing or just don’t want to bother anyone else in the office.  An archived copy of the clip and a transcript should be presented later, too.

This sounds like a pretty nice offering, all in all.  Maybe we can start a "Hug A Taxman" day.

  1. In an audit, you must convince the IRS that you reported all of your income and were entitled to any credits, deductions, and exemptions that are questioned.
