Small Biz Documentarian Checks In

Discusses "5 clear trends"

Three weeks ago, we announced that Enterprise Nation would make some small business owners the subject of a documentary.  Now, you don’t yet need to get out the popcorn, but several insights the filmmakers picked up while putting people on camera are at least available for consumption.

"Now is a great time to start" is the first point Emma Jones, the founder of Enterprise Nation, chose to share in a guest post on the Small Business Blog from Microsoft.  She wrote, "One moment that will stick in the mind is when Patrick Elliott (CEO of Business Link in London) opened an event with a question to the audience of ‘Do you think this is a good time to start a business?’ – a ripple of 200 voices came from behind and it was a resounding ‘yes.’"

Next, Jones stressed, "Technology means trade."  The Web has opened up so many possibilities that just about every business should be able to benefit from it in some way.  Indeed, this leads to another point, since many companies are using online tools to help them outsource tasks.

Jones also found that small business owners are enjoying the freedom and control their positions grant them, and that they tend to engage in ethical activities (think volunteering or free trade).

As for the documentary, it should air on November 20th, which is also Home Enterprise Day.
