Survey Participants ID Online Sales As Safe Haven

Recession might lean harder on traditional businesses

It’s still not time for small business owners to run to the hills, according to the experts.  However, the results of a new study stress the importance of at least refocusing on online sales.

Every other day or so, we get more bad economic news, and today’s isn’t good; the Dow is down about 200 points at the moment.  The effect that all this has on consumer spending is obvious.

Still, in a Shop.org study conducted by Forrester Research, 72 percent of online retailers said online channels seem better suited than traditional methods to survive a recession.

Scott Silverman, the executive director of Shop.org, then chimed in by stating, "Internet retailers have good reason for optimism as budget-focused shoppers head to the web for value and convenience.  Online retailers are well-positioned to make the best of a potentially lean holiday season."

So, assuming your industry allows for it, don’t forget to mention your website as often as possible (and be sure to establish one if you haven’t already).  Consumers should appreciate the move, and site maintenance is only a small inconvenience if things don’t work out well.

I agree with this statement…all of us need to refocus on our online sales.
