Equifax Records Progress In Bankruptcy Trends

The odds of small businesses staying in business - that is, not going bankrupt - appear to be improving. New data released by Equifax indicates that bankruptcies in some of the most troubled metropolitan statistical areas decreased between the fourth quarters of 2009 and 2010.

Today is perhaps not the best day to conduct a pep talk regarding the economy; the Dow's been in the red pretty much since the market opened. However, a new report's indicated that small business bankruptcy trends seem to be heading in the right direction.
Small Biz Bankruptcies Decrease Again

Small businesses continue to do a better and better job of actually staying in business, according to new data. Equifax found that there's been a drop in small business bankruptcies for the fifth consecutive quarter.Small business bankruptcies peaked in early 2009, with 37,299 reported during the second quarter. By the third quarter of 2009, things were significantly better, with only 34,257 on record.
California Leads Nation In Small Biz Bankruptcies

California's a place where people often go in order to chase their dreams. But just as wannabe actors more often wind up waiting tables, it seems California is an iffy place to own a small business, since new stats indicate the state leads the country in terms of small business bankruptcies.
