BBB Institutes New Rating System

The Better Business Bureau has adopted a new approach to rating companies, and in theory, the system should allow for more accuracy than the two old "satisfactory" and "unsatisfactory" options. Unfortunately, it's already sounding as if the fresh approach will leave good companies no less unhappy.

You may have heard of a scam involving the yearbook-style recognition of youngsters. Other tricksters will paste any family name on the front of a genealogy book and try to sell it as a personalized guide. Now, the Better Business Bureau is warning smaller companies about vanity awards.

The more thorough (and/or OCD) a consumer is, the more things he or she will want to know about a company. Prices, exchange policies, and friends' experiences may all come into play. And so might Better Business Bureau credentials, which is why business owners should consider becoming members.
