Rising Prices Could Slow Consumer Spending

Nearly three- quarters (74%) of Americans believe higher prices could slow their spending in the coming months, according to a new survey from Deloitte.The survey found that mobile and social connections are helping shoppers make better buying decisions in the wake of the recession.
Consumer Spending Slips Slightly In September

The Deloitte Consumer Spending Index dipped in September due to a climbing tax burden and continued weakness in the housing market. The Index attempts to track consumer cash flow as an indicator of future consumer spending."A small increase in the tax rate coupled with ongoing declines in real home prices is causing a slowdown in the Index," said Carl Steidtmann, Deloitte's chief economist and author of the monthly Index.
Consumers Plan To Spend More On Back-To-School Shopping

Consumers are planning to spend more this back-to-school shopping season than in recent years, according to a new survey by Deloitte.Nearly thirty percent (28%) of consumers said they plan to spend more this year on back-to-school shopping compared to last year, while just 17 percent indicate they plan to spend less.
