Small Businesses Still Hesitant When It Comes To Hiring

The economy still seems to be affecting small businesses - especially when it comes to growth and the hiring of new employees.According to the CBIZ Small Business Emplyoment Index (SBEI), a barometer for hiring trends, October saw a decrease in hiring among companies with 300 employees or fewer.  In October, the index fell 1.28%, after already falling .81% in September.

Businesses Acquiring Funding, Yet Optimism Still Declines

The latest business feedback survey from the National Small Business Association comes as the stock market has one of its worst days in recent memory. U.S. stocks took a dive today in the biggest drop since the 2008 financial crisis.  The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped over 500 points as investors lose faith in both the American and European economies.  This huge drop today is the culmination of a terrible few weeks on Wall Street.  People are worried about the economy. 

CBIZ Finds Small Biz Employment Up In March

It's a rare month when everyone can agree whether things took a turn for the better or for the worse, but with respect to March, there's now one more vote for "better."  The CBIZ Small Business Employment Index indicates that small businesses were able to hire new workers.

Employment Up For Fifth Consecutive Month

The Conference Board Employment Trends Index (ETI) rose in February for the fifth month in a row.  The index is now at 101.7, up from January's revised figure of 100.1. The index is up 8 percent from a year ago.

Small Business Employment Sees Growth In February

Small  business employment and hours worked continued to grow in February with wages remaining flat, according to a new report from Intuit. The monthly report found that small business employment grew by 0.3 percent in February, equating to an annual growth rate of more than 3 percent. This translates to approximately 50,000 new jobs created nationwide

Small business owners who haven't concerned themselves with printing either job application forms or pink slips are pretty much normal, judging from fresh survey results.  CareerBuilder found that 2011 is likely to be a quiet year in terms of hiring and firing.

Small Business Employment Sees Positive Growth

 Small business employment grew by 0.3 percent in January, for annual growth rate of more than 4 percent according to the Intuit Small Business Employment Index.“A substantial fraction of the new jobs in the recovery have been created by small businesses,” said Susan Woodward, the economist who worked with Intuit to create the Index.

Small Business Owners Plan To Expand Operations In 2011

More than half (57%) of small business owners say they plan to make changes in 2011, with 43 percent planning to expand their business operations, according to a new Wells Fargo/Gallup Small Business Index survey. Among those looking to expand, 56 percent say they will add new employees.
