Intuit: Small Business Cloud Usage At 38 Percent In The UK

"The cloud" has become an increasingly common term over the past year or so, with all sorts of people and companies discussing the benefits of accessing information online rather than storing it locally. And it looks like they've been doing more than talking, too, as a new study shows that many UK small businesses have begun taking advantage of cloud technology.

Intuit and salesforce.com have formed a partnership aimed at making it easier for small businesses to manage customer information and financial data. A recent survey by Intuit found that more than one-half of small businesses perform CRM tasks manually or with software not designed for the job; 28 percent use pen and paper, while another 28 percent manually enter data on spreadsheets. These results signal a need in the market for integrated solutions.

The monthly report found that small business employment grew by 0.3 percent in February, equating to an annual growth rate of more than 3 percent. The majority (65%) of accounting professionals and more than half (54%) of small business owners said their companies grew in the last 12 months, according to a new survey from Intuit. Despite this growth, 75 percent of accounting professionals and 80 percent of small business owners rate today’s economic climate as “just fair” or “poor.”

Small business employment grew by 0.3 percent in January, for annual growth rate of more than 4 percent according to the Intuit Small Business Employment Index.“A substantial fraction of the new jobs in the recovery have been created by small businesses,” said Susan Woodward, the economist who worked with Intuit to create the Index.

Small business employment continued to show growth in November, although wages were down and hours worked remained flat, according to Intuit's Small Business Employment Index. The monthly report found that small business employment grew by 0.24 percent in November, equating to an annual rate of about 3 percent. This translates to approximately 49,000 new jobs created nationwide. The Index is based on figures from the country's smallest businesses that use Intuit Online Payroll.
