Over One-Third of American Adults Now Own a Smartphone

It should come as no surprise to anyone that more people are browsing the web from their phones than ever before. For the past few years, not only have more people decided that smartphones should play an integral part of their daily lives, but those smartphones have gotten better, faster, stronger.The Pew Internet & American Life Project has just released a new study that shows more Americans now own smartphones than have college degrees.

The small and medium business market is in a position to break Research in Motion's (RIM) corporate smartphone lead, according to new research by AMI-Partners.Apple’s iPhone, in particular, is making headway, especially with smaller businesses (SBs). “The wealth of applications available for the iPhone makes it an attractive option for SBs,” notes Karen Nielsen, Senior Telecom Analyst with AMI.

A few months ago, we looked at the importance of paying attention to the iPhone. Google has a businesses layer for Google Earth on the iPhone. AdMob released data indicating that the iPhone is by far the biggest smartphone in terms of market share, and Nielsen reported that the US mobile Internet market grew by 74% between February '07 and February '09. This was mostly due to smartphones.
