The average small business owner's outlook was largely positive in February, according to new data provided by Office Depot. Indeed, the Office Depot Small Business Index found that the majority of owners thought the overall economy will improve, and an even greater number believed their particular companies will achieve greater success.

While many reports say the economy is slowly leveling out or improving, the new results from Office Depot's Small Business Index show that small businesses are still facing uncertain times and are continuing to feel the effects of the economic downturn.More than a third (38%) of small businesses indicated they have been impacted by the economic slowdown and are compensating by "limiting business travel," 29 percent are "cutting advertising expenditures," and 22 percent are "outsourcing fewer jobs."
