The Impact of Mobile on the Holidays

Although consumers are embracing mobile at a rapid rate, most businesses are not jumping on the bandwagon as quickly. A recent report from eCommerce Know-How actually showed that 58 percent of companies are not utilizing mobile marketing or mobile commerce. Is this number surprising to you?
Consumer Spending Index Dips In June

The Deloitte Consumer Spending Index fell in June for the second consecutive month, dues to weak real wages and the housing market. The index attempts to track consumer cash flow as an indicator of future consumer spending."Real hourly earnings, after experiencing growth in 2009, have deteriorated in 2010 and continue to drag on the Index," said Carl Steidtmann, chief economist with Deloitte Research, a part of Deloitte Services LP, and author of the monthly Index.

It's hard to believe that it's already time to start holiday shopping. According to the recent National Retail Federation's 2009 Holiday Consumer Intentions and Actions survey, it looks like the early bird may get the only worm. The survey, conducted by BIGresearch, found that consumers are aggressively looking for bargains this year. In addition, retailers are greatly cutting back on their inventory due to weak demand. In other words, it's going to be a push-and-pull battle between retailers and consumers.
