Small Business Owners Expecting Increased Sales

One out of two U.S. small business owners expect increased sales in the next six months, but non-labor costs could squeeze profits and lead to higher selling prices over the same period, according to a new PNC Economic Outlook survey. The survey indicates owners' expectations for sales and profits have rebounded from unexpected setbacks last fall along with a brighter outlook for hiring full-time employees. However, 64 percent foresee higher non-labor costs, which will prompt owners to raise prices in an effort to preserve profit margins.

Small Businesses Have Positive Outlook About 2011

Going into the new year, a majority of small to midsized businesses are optimistic about 2011, according to a new survey from Zoomerang. With 84 percent of the SMBs surveyed predicting that sales will increase or remain the same, many businesses are looking to hire new employees and/or upgrade technology. As a result of the positive outlook anticipated by the majority of respondents, 25 percent of those surveyed indicated they are planning to hire new staff in the next 12 months.

Fortunately for small businesses, data from Burst Media indicates most consumers won't try to opt for cheap stuff and homemade gifts this year.Burst surveyed 2,600 American adults before reaching this conclusion, so its findings should be somewhat sound. The only thing worth noting is that the people were surveyed online, so the results might skew towards the tech-savvy.
