Things To Ask Youself Before Starting a Business

Check Out This Top Ten List

ReadWriteStart, a new channel from ReadWriteWeb has a nice list up about 10 things to be clear about before you start a company. I thought this would be worth sharing here at SmallBusinessNewz.

I’m not going to get into each of them like they do (just check out the article).  But the list itself is as follows:

1. Is this your first venture?

2. Are you really an entrepreneur?

3. Does your venture involve something you understand really well?

4. Can your mother understand the value proposition?

5. Can you see the right wave?

6. What does your startup want to be when it grows up?

7. Starting a company is hard and uncertain.

8. Get a partner or fly solo?

9. Would you refuse a well-paying job to do this?

10. Can you raise appropriate financing?

These are some really good questions to ask yourself before you take any giant leaps that can make or break you. Do yourself a favor and read this article. It actually comes from Microsoft BizSpark.

    2. Yes.

    3. Yes. I made sure to make it so. :)

    4. No. But its because I haven’t told her the plans. :)

    5. I do.

    6. A corporate media conglomerate. :)

    7. Its not my first entrepeurial foray into the market. I know its hard, and uncertain – but for me. I do know it is bound to be successful because the weak economy is the best time for a company to be formed. Especially if you think big.

    8. Solo. Solo. Solo.

    9. Nope.

    10. Yeap.

So, once again, nice list! :)

    Happy 10th anniversary, iEntry!

  2. Oh, and be prepared to devote 25 hours a day and 366 days a year to your business. To own and run business requires a lot of your time. You will work harder than you ever have. It helps to really love what you do. Be prepared by making sure that you will get the support and understanding of you family. Especially your spouse. Line up that home support because it is important.

  3. Your MOTHER????  Good grief, the wrath of the women is pounding on your head as I speak.  Do you honestly realize that about 30% of all businesses are started by people over 50?  There are lots and lots of retired and semi-retired folks starting second businesses.  The more important question is:  Do YOU understand the business.  (Yeah, my boss is an older woman, so I’m hoping to rack up some brownie points here.  But good grief, guys.)
