eBay Unveils Major Impending Update

"Big" and "good" sellers to benefit

The typical press release is an exaggerator extraordinaire - it uses words like "significant," "sweeping," and "fundamental" without regard for their true definitions.  But now eBay has put out a release containing those words, and it's much more accurate than usual.

On February 20th, sellers should see listing fees get slashed by 25 to 50 percent.  Final value fees will be raised to compensate, but this arrangement should make sellers' losses on unsold items much less significant.

Also, eBay's release promises, "eBay will begin increasing search exposure for the listings of sellers with the best buyer satisfaction ratings."  Sellers with bad ratings will be similarly punished, which should encourage honesty and improve the auction site's reputation.

A handful of other updates are expected, as well, and overall, this looks like a solid way for eBay's new CEO, John Donahoe, to begin his reign.

We'll admit that the improvements won't benefit everyone, and they may not create an immediate turnaround - sellers and buyers aren't likely to come running back from Amazon and other competitors.  But if everything works as intended, eBay may see some old faces return, and the majority of current users are probably going to be pleased.

eBay Postage

eBay  pricing Still needs to be sorted out. How often do you see items for example 1 cent but postage is $5.00.

Refund can only be palces on the cost of the item and not the postage. So on an item priced as above you will only get 1cent back and lose the $5.00 postage costs.
