4 Firefox Add-Ons that Are Useful to Your Online Business

Add convenience to your browsing experience...

Many of you probably don't use Mozilla Firefox and use Internet Explorer or another browser instead, but I personally have found Firefox to be a very useful and convenient browser. How convenient you make it is up to you and how many add-ons you decide to engage.

There are surely hundreds of Firefox Add-ons that you would find useful in one way or another. There are far too many to be familiar with all of them, but I wanted to highlight a few that I have found tremendously helpful.

1. StumbeUpon Toolbar

The StumbeUpon Toolbar is one of the best tools, I have ever used, both for business and for entertainment. It is very handy for social media marketing and finding new sites in any given niche.

The most convenient part about it, is that you don't have to go to StumbleUpon.com to do your bookmarking. The toolbar has everything you need right at the top of your browser window. If you are not familiar with StumbleUpon, I suggest familiarizing yourself with it as soon as possible.

2. Smart Digg Button

The Smart Digg Button add-on, like the StumbleUpon toolbar is also a great social media marketing tool. It places a small, unobtrusive Digg button in the bottom-right corner of your browser that allows you to Digg any page you are on with minimal hassle. This is especially helpful for pages that don't have their own Digg button.

The Smart Digg Button, also lets you know how many Diggs any given page has already received. This is a great way to keep up with your own pages, especially if you write articles.

3. Live PageRank

The Live PageRank add-on also sits in the bottom right-hand corner of your browser and is also unobtrusive and great for monitoring the PageRank of any site.

This way, you can always know where your pages stand. It also lets you know where your competitors stand in terms of PageRank.

4. IE Tab

This add-on places a tiny icon at the bottom right-hand side of your browser (at least in the version I have installed)  that lets you toggle back and forth between Firefox and Internet Explorer.

This is a great tool for designers, or for checking the work of your designer when it comes to making sure your pages look the way they should in the two most popular web browsers. It is very important that your site is represented properly in as many browsers as possible because you never know what your customer is using.

Again, there are so many helpful Firefox add-ons out there to choose from. Perhaps the best ones haven't even come into existence yet. I'd love to hear which ones you use, especially for business purposes. Glen over at LifeDev has nice list of 25 more extensions to make you more productive.

firefox addons

Great article, thx very much for the essential list. Especially stumbleupon and the digg toolbars.  Sometimes it seems as there is toolbar overload and we have just as many toolbars as bookmark favorites, but the best always rises to the top.

Toolbars

Thanks Myfryi. I know what you mean about toolbar overload. The StumbleUpon toolbar is the only actual toolbar I use, unless you count all of the bookmarks like you mentioned (another one of my favorite things about Firefox). I like the Digg Button, the Live PageRank, and IE Tab add-ons because they're down in the corner and really unnoticeable unless you want to look at them.

StumbleUpon stumble

About 4 months ago, when I stumbled upon StumbleUpon, I installed it in a flash. Soon after, I noticed that the Google Ads on my webpage disappeared! Now, since I'm struggling to raise a few bucks over my web page, I nearly went comatose!

I tried various options, but nothing worked - until I removed StumbleUpon - and the instant I did so, my Google Ads returned to sight! The Google HelpDesk guys, though very well-meaning, had no clue about this incompatibility - I stumbled upon it myself.

In the time since then, I do not know whether StumbleUpon has removed the bugs, or whether Google has - I do wish they have!

As for me, StumbleUpon, despite its wonderful promise, is simply too 'expensive', in the absence of concrete proof that this won't happen again!

RE: 4 Firefox Add-Ons

The best thing I like about Firefox is that is not as big a target yet for exploits. IE is just too full of holes for me to use the Internet and feel secure.

Great Post by the way.

Very true...

That's a good point too, Doug. Thanks!

Add ons

Thanks for the information. They are some of the better add ons for Fire Fox. I know and use four of them but I did not know about the Digg button. Thanks for pointing that out.

I love Fire Fox and it is much easier to use. My only problem is that I am stuck in dial-up land and IE loads much faster.

Great Tools

These are great tools for marketing an online business.

Cheers!

Kaboodle

Another good web site is Kaboodle:

Here is an iPod cases page for example

Similar to Stumble, but with more social interaction

Great Firefox extensions

These are all great tools - especially StumbleUpon.  Now I'm waiting on someone to develop a "StumbleAddict" extension so you can see how much time you're spending using StumbleUpon!

I also like a couple of other extensions, like Aaron Wall's SEO for Firefox (which allows you to see Google and Yahoo data for any page for SEO purposes), and Compete.com's Site Profile Extension, which allows you to see website performance stats right from your browser.

Thanks!
