Small business owners are becoming tighter with their accountants according to a survey from SurePayroll.
This is especially true during tax season, unsurprisingly, but the amount of reliance on accountants among small business owners seems to be on the upswing.
5% more small business owners than last year are using an accountant to handle their taxes. These owners are spending even less time on taxes than the average American on their personal taxes.
"Accountants are the small business owners' most trusted advisors, and for good reason. Good accountants can more than make up for their fees in the tax dollars and potential fines they save them,"says SurePayroll President Michael Alter.
"Most provide their clients with a spectrum of services that benefit the business in a variety of ways. The value they provide is quantifiable, so it's easy to justify the cost," he added.
Nearly all of those surveyed that use accountants said they would not switch if a cheaper option came along. Apparently, loyalty and trust are worth the extra dough to most of them.
"There are a lot of services that business people are willing to switch because of better prices -- a good accountant isn't one of them," says Alter.
It will be interesting to see if the trend in small business owner/accountant loyalty will continue to grow in the coming years.
