Adding PayPal To Existing Sites

Microsoft gives eCommerce a nudge

Businesses that don't sell their products online are rare.  Some may do it for a special reason - misguided by ideas about exclusivity and prestige, perhaps - but others are just way behind the times.  Embracing PayPal is a way of catching up.

Granted, a lot of people are still upset with eBay, and this solution would have them working with the same corporation.  Money eventually needs to be made, however, regardless of whatever arguments are taking place.  And at least this will allow any auction boycotts to continue.

So, since just about everyone's familiar with PayPal, its advantages, and its drawbacks, on to the matter of using it on a website.

A blurb suggests on Microsoft's Small Business Blog suggests, "Simply sign up for a PayPal account, choose Website Payments Standard, create your chosen button, copy the html code that PayPal creates for you and drop it onto your Office Live Small Business Web page using the 'Module' then 'html' feature."

Further instructions and a couple of examples are available through the link for anyone who's interested.

PayPal

PayPal is fairly easy to add to a site. As a person who used eBay in the early years and just recently tried them again, I was totally overwhelmed by the "fees". I had an eBay store until I realized that the fees from an item sold from the store were 12% plus 8% depending on the amount. By the time, my item had all the fees from listing to selling deducted from it, there was not much left. Needless to say I just closed the ebay store and I now put buttons for my artwork on my blog instead. I occasionally list an item on eBay. The only thing that bothers me is that eBay owns PayPal and how much longer will it be before they "fee" PayPal to death or start charging for things that are  free.....like the buttons.

I also have started listing my items on etsy.com where fees are very reasonable. There are alternatives to eBay.

Discover a new way for customer to pay

Debra's idea sounds fascinating and is rather like the Holy Grail of e-commerce - what are we overlooking? - unless it is some form of m-commerce billing platform; which would fulfill these requirements.

Good add-on

We added PayPal to our payment options about 3 years ago & it's been a plus for us. About 7% of total go with PayPal.

Use PayPal only? No, that's cheesy & unprofessional. If you're going to operate a business, you've got to have the proper shopping carts. Plus side...your money is there in your account, collecting interest if you like. Easier & faster to use than electronic checks. Down side...none really. Just another account to reconcile each month.

For those who don't want to use a credit card for any particular reason. www.parpools.com is happy to make it easier for anyone to pay for their purchase.
