The Power & Influence of Small Business in Washington D.C.

Where is it at?

Nine out of ten Americans believe that small businesses have too little power and influence in Washington D.C.

That is according to a recent poll from Harris Interactive. Harris has been conducting this poll every year since 1994, and this year asked adults how much power and influence they believe 14 different entities have over politics in Washington D.C.

Entities besides small businesses the poll asked about are:

- Big Companies

- Political Action Committees which give money to political candidates

- Political lobbyists

- The news media

- Entertainment and sports celebrities

- TV and radio talk shows

- Trades associations

- Labor unions

 - Opinion polls

- Churches and religious groups

- Racial minorities

- Nonprofit organizations

- Public opinion

Small business influence in WashingtonAccording to the poll, the vast majority of the American public believes that big companies, political action committees, political lobbyists and the news media have too much power and influence, and small business doesn't have enough.

This is true among Republicans, Democrats and Independents. Only 4% of all 3 parties feel that small businesses have too much power, while 90% feel that they don't have enough.

The Harris Poll was conducted by telephone within the U.S. between February 5th and 11th with 1,010 participants. For an interesting and detailed look at all of the stats from this poll going back to 1994, check out this release.

Do you agree that small businesses don't have enough influence in D.C.? Do you think that big companies have too much?
