In an otherwise well-organized filing cabinet, my folder dedicated to receipts is a bit messy.  Receipts come in different shapes and sizes; they occasionally get crumpled or torn.  A company called Shoeboxed can help people sort them out.

The service costs $9.95 the first month, and $19.95 per month thereafter.  For this, users are able to send receipts away in a prepaid envelope.  Shoeboxed scans them, makes all the info available through an online account, and then sends the receipts back.

This is, admittedly, the kind of thing that some people would identify as a great place to save money.  Consider whether you can handle the scanning on your own.  And honestly, even if your business generates a whole lot of receipts, the skeptics may be right.

The compatibility of Shoeboxed with Quicken and TurboTax is a nice touch, however, and it can also be thought of as an added backup in case of fires, floods, or computer problems.

Consider whether you, or your company's accountants, should look into new methods of receipt organization.
