Don't Just Write Articles. Write Them Right!

Make article promotion work.

You may have a writer inside you even if you didn't know it. If you own your own business, you have to be savvy in some areas, so why not share things you have learned along the way with others?

The best reason to do this is to help you brand yourself as an expert in your field.

Syndication and Your Agenda

When you write articles to have syndicated at other web sites, what you don't want to do is write ones that are too self-serving, promoting your products heavily.

This may be fine for your own business blog, but that's what press releases are for. If you want people to take you seriously, it's better to produce good quality articles that could actually help people rather than just some filler sales pitch content disguised as an article.

Promotion from a Bio

The beauty of the author bio is that it allows you to promote your business and/or product without being so tacky about it. You have it there on every article you write, yet you don't come off as just another pitch. Basically, you're giving them the content they want and providing them with an opportunity to look into your business if you offer something that they are interested in, which if you are writing relevant content to what you do, there is a good chance that they will be.

Pictures and Humanization

Whenever possible, try to include a photo of yourself with your articles. You may be self-conscious about posting images of yourself, but it is a lot easier for someone to trust what they are reading if they can put a face to it.

There's just something humanizing about being able to see whose words you are reading, and it makes the content seem more credible, even if only on a subconscious level.

Unique Content

I know. Creating unique content is easier said than done (believe me, I struggle with it everyday). There are so many good and bad articles posted on the Internet that most likely whatever you have to say has been said before.

Still, that doesn't mean that you can't put a fresh perspective to any given subject. Even if it's been said before, it hasn't been said by your voice. And maybe it hasn't even been said to your audience.

Readability

When you've dealt with as many articles as I have, it becomes apparent that not everyone should be writing. I'm not saying that I'm Mark Twain, but I've seen so many articles that are just borderline unintelligible that it makes me question what inspired the authors to ever put their fingers on the keyboard. The point I'm trying to make here is that if you're going to take the plunge into the writing pool, make sure your articles are readable. Let someone else read over them before you post them online if you are not sure about them.

Posting a bunch of articles full of unreadable malarkey is a good way to get your online reputation to sink. Typos happen, but there is a difference between typos and nonsense.

If you can pull off all of the above, you should be on the right track to promoting your business through articles the right way. How has promotion through articles worked for you? Share your story in the comments.

Writing

Chris, nice stuff! It's very important that an article shows a competency in the topic. I just started my blog and have a great pleasure to see how a traffic improves if I post my articles according to the "rules". I always try to learn from someone's successful experience and your stuff is very helpful. Thanks!

Re: writing

Thanks Konstantin. I've been dealing with syndicating articles submitted by others for a while now, and I see how rare it is to get actual quality stuff.

articles

i hate writing articles, when i start i always find myself with the first couple of sentences making sence, after that complete waffle, i even went to the expense of buying instant article wizard, this is meant to create them for me, yeah ok what a pile of rubbish, i think i'll stick to writing waffle who knows maybe someone will like it lol.

article wizard

I'm not familiar with Instant Article Wizard, but it is hard to imagine a program churning out good articles.

Articles

Writing articles is mentally exhausting.  By the time you get almost done it's like ... thank God!

I do not like doing it and I'm not very good but it does work.

Exhausting

Writing articles can be mentally exhausting, but I find that if I'm writing on a topic that I enjoy, it is a lot less so.

Articles

I hate article writing.............OFF Subject. Johnny Depps new film called public enemies was being filmed about 80 miles from here in Oshkosh, wi. We took the kids and tried to get a view I have a few pictures up, Just click the link to Beach theme decor Johnny Depp Pictures and you will see a few pictures, I will put some more up tonight or tommorow.

Hi Chris, One reason why

Hi Chris, One reason why there is such an influx in "crap" articles is that people aren't using article "spinners" correctly. Lots of marketers use article spinners to take one article and spin it into several unique content articles from the original. Then they submit the articles to ezines and various blogs. The thought here is that the article will get more bang for the buck because it's "original" and won't get hit with the duplicate content penalty from SERPS... If you ARE going to spin an article...take the time to have it make sense to an actual reader. This takes work but unfortunately a lot of article writers aren't willing to put the work into doing it correctly. I'm writing about 15 articles to promote my internet marketing tools and it's a LOT of work. I'm considering hiring ghost writers to help me "spin" the article after I write the original. This way I still get my "voice" and my message out there but save a ton of time on the "spinning" part of it.

Quality

Yes, in the end quality usually takes work (even if you aren't the only one doing it).

writing articles for online business promotion

Chris
So very true. I get PLR articles every month and quite frankly the contents are nothing more than waffle designed to fill the page. I find that I have to rewrite most of the contents in a more meaningful way.

That 's not to say PLR articles are no good, on the contrary, they are excellent for getting the creative juices flowing. Rewriting a PLR article is not too difficult if you read each sentence then rewrite it in your own words so that the original meaning is more or less the same but you've used your own words. I find it much quicker to use PLR than sit down and start an article from scratch.

Once I have my base article what I do then is to use a decent rewriter tool that enables me to substitute some words so that I get multiple copies of my base article. I then use a article submission service that can syndicate one copy of each article to one article site.

When promoting my online business through article marketing I make sure I vary the article titles, the anchor text in my bio and I make sure the article content and keywords link back to an article on my website where the content  is similar. It has to look as natural as possible to the search engines to really see the benefits
