Business owners online want to be found for their niche as often as possible. But not every potential listing opportunity may have a category available that best suits the business.
Fortunately, SERountable tells us Google listened to calls for a more free-form field for business listings. "Up until a few weeks ago it was true that we couldn't create new categories," one Googler said in a Google Group forum post.
"However, thanks to your many requests, and to our Local Business Center team, you can now enter free form categories for your business in your Local Business Center account."
Used properly, businesses can establish themselves in a niche that Google might not see, though potential customers want to find it. Universal search content appearing in pages results makes it important to have relevant visibility to people, especially with universal search unearthing local results for certain queries.
