See To It That Tax Rebates Are Spent At Your Business

Give a practical reason or extra incentive

Most small business owners know that consumers will soon have at least an extra $300 thanks to tax rebates.  Now, instead of just hoping some of that money comes to you, see if you can't draw it in a little.

Without any sort of nudge, people are as likely (if not more so) to drop their money into a savings account as spend it.  Or they might put it towards credit card debt, an extra mortgage payment, or something else practical.  Try to make your product or service seem like an equally sound investment, or at least a really tempting one.

Chuck Huckaby notes Kroger is running a special that will essentially give customers a discount on gift cards when they spend their tax rebates.  The discount only works out to ten percent, so it's not the sort of thing that's likely to have the plastic companies working overtime.  Still, it's appealing.

Just try not to lose any money on the deal. If the only people who buy Kroger's cards immediately spend them, for example, Kroger will be out a lot of money.  The company's counting on collecting interest on the rebates while the gift cards collect dust or get lost.

Purchases of $300 or $600 can really add up, and those checks are coming soon, so start thinking.
