Online Job Ads Growing Scarce

Shortage constitutes more bad economic news

If you've got as many employees as you want, it seems like you're in line with a lot of other companies.  Online job ads are down significantly from the level they attained this time last year.

A drop of just a percentage point or two might be a bad sign; although the statistic should be weighed against demand and unemployment data, it's generally supposed to grow.  But Alexandra Zendrian writes, "The number of online job postings last month declined 16.4 percent from a year ago, the Conference Board reported Friday."

Maryland, Vermont, and Connecticut appear to be hardest-hit areas in April, with Alaska, Nevada, and Massachusetts staying strong.

Now, if you're happy with your current group of employees, here's how the development still affects you.  Gad Levanon, a Conference Board economist, stated, "The lack of new job opportunities is contributing to consumers' feelings of uncertainty and is affecting their buying intentions."

Even if we're not in a recession, then - and that's a pretty debatable point - don't let down your regard or relax those money-saving measures just yet.

Cheaper Job Ads

Another challenge is that most job boards charge hundresds of dollars per ad to post, which is not very practicle for a small business. To pass on a tip, I use a service called classifiedflyerads.com to post my job ads. They post job openings to over a dozen job boards and I save a lot of money - I think the prices start around 6 bucks.
