How Well Are You Covering Your Niche?

Perhaps your niche is narrower than you realize.

The other day I discussed why you shouldn't ignore part of your market. I basically ranted about being tall and never being able to find clothes that fit me in regular stores.

A commenter implied that it is not in these stores' best interest to provide these sizes because there are not enough people my size to justify the ROI. I'm not sure I totally agree with this, as like I mentioned previously, I see people my size and taller all the time.

But alas, that is not the point of this article. My question, as the title indicates, is: How well do are you covering your niche?

I could shop at Big and Tall stores, but to be perfectly honest, I have never been able to find clothing I want to wear in any of these stores. That's not to say that other people don't, but the selection of styles usually seems to be quite limited, which is why (aside from the fact that the clothing is usually overpriced) I don't just go to these places to begin with.

If you run a Big and Tall store, please forgive me. I am not here to make judgments about your particular store. Perhaps I am stereotyping the Big and Tall store in general, but what I am getting at is, if your store is dedicated to serving a niche (such as "big and tall" males) perhaps you should cater to a broader range of customers that fit into your particular niche. If your niche is to cater to big and tall golfers, then perhaps you should represent your brand in that light.

I apologize if this comes off as another rant, because that's really not my goal. I think there is a valid point behind my madness. I believe someone once said, "Own Your Niche".

If you can apply this principle to whatever niche you operate your business under, you are more likely to have a wider range of happy customers.

Hello! It is interesting

Hello!

It is interesting what you say about niches. Anyway, I think "we could feel" what niche we are in a pretty easy way. But what is more difficult is to find out if it is the kind of niche that is worth working in.

By the way, what about starting a brand new concept about Big and Tall stores? I am tall too, and let me tell you that I agree with you 100 %. Is it that those who run Big and Tall stores think we don't have the right to wear clothes we really like?

RE: It is interesting

Heh. It certainly feels that way sometimes. New concepts for big and tall stores would be very welcome from my point of view.

Niche expansion

Hi, I agree that niches can be expanded on. We stsrted a crossdressing and makeup service and realised that we can crossell clothes and shoes as well to our customers. This has made a big difference to our turnover. If you get it right, you can make a big difference to your sales.

RE: Niche expansion

Good call. The more you can offer your target market, the more they are likely to come back.
