Online Sales Look Good For Small Businesses

Survey respondents expect steady or increasing revenue

If you haven't started selling stuff online, now would be a great time to do so.  Small business owners seem to feel online sales are going to remain strong regardless of how the rest of the economy sinks.

"Approximately 70% of the respondents don't expect their web revenue to decline despite economic conditions," according to Register.com, which talked to 800 small businesses.  Exactly 34.5 percent of its respondents plan on seeing the same level of revenue, and 34.6 percent expect the level to rise.

All of the standard disclaimers apply: conditions may be different according to geographic region or market segment, or Register.com's respondents could just be incorrectly optimistic.

With such a strong response, it appears that online sales may really represent a sort of safe haven, though.  Chris Crum looked into some of the customer rationale behind this trend.  And even if you have a service that can't be sold online, it's probably wise to establish (or revisit and refine) an online presence.

Register.com CEO Larry Kutscher stated, "Having a website has become more than a luxury for small businesses and entrepreneurs, it is a necessity."

I'm not surprised

Smart marketers thrive during recessions. Small business owners who are actively using online methods are generally smart marketers. By using online marketing methods they will hold themselves above their competition and increase their businesses. Doug

eBay stores are complimenting store fronts

Yes - I have a couple of friends that have local store fronts and the economy is hurting the sales in those local stores.  They are surviving on their eBay stores.  One local music store owner also sells music equipment on eBay and in addition he submits his eBay feed to ClassifiedFlyerAds.com, which in return syndicates to other top directories and search engines and he is doing very well.

Are There Still Biz WITHOUT A Website ?

Just kidding,

Of course I know that many still don't have a website. And the small biz who have a site most probably don't have a site made to get new and additional sales.

95% of all sites I see and where I offer my advice are only a better form of a business card or a flyer. No search engine optimization, no product offers, no special deals, no opt in box for email marketing, no affiliate program - nothing.

The Biz Owner payed 5k and wonder why he is not making any additional sales.

I HIGHLY recommend for all small biz owners to join a place like the Wealthy Affiliate University or any similar learning resource (this just happens to be the best and cheapest) where he can learn all about Online sales and what his site needs make a great extra business.

This is a small investment of less then 40.- a month and will avoid that the biz has to hire a high payed webmaster or designer who will eat up his cash to build a simple site which is mostly even not well done.

If you want a site to sell some, get yourself first the knowledge about HOW TO SELL ONLINE. P.S. It's NOT the same as selling Offline.

Help for Stan

Stan,

First of all there are no links on your outdoor lighting site. Google loves links. I would spend your $ working on your web site not your blog.

On your comforter site. Are your keywords words that people are searching for on the internet?
