Microsoft Announces Laptop-And-Cash Contest

Too bad it's broken

Here's some great news: over the next ten weeks, you might get ten opportunities to win 2,000 prize packages.  But naturally, there's some bad news, too, and it seems that the contest site isn't working right now.

Yes, it'd be quite a tease if Microsoft pretended to give away 20,000 and then kept it all because no one was able to enter the drawing.  The company's webmaster is likely to notice the outage at some point, though, and would-be participants always have the option of sending emails.

So here are the contest details so far as they're possible to see right now.  The Small Business Blog from Microsoft asks, "Does your website need a makeover?  For the next 10 weeks, Microsoft Office Live Small Business is giving away a 2,000 prize package every week, comprising a new Dell laptop, a complete makeover for your website and over 500 in cash.  Enter the prize draw today."

Americans may be interested to know that 2,000 and 500 convert to roughly $3,917 and $979, respectively.  Although one of the to-be-determined points is whether contestants must live in the UK.

Good luck with both winning the prizes and, before that, getting the site to work.

Surprised?

It's Microsoft so of course it's going to be broken.  Very amusing, but sounds like a great competition.

Save Our Sites Prize draw

Hi,

I'm the Microsoft Product Manager responsible for this competition in the UK.

We're not aware of any outages on the Prize Draw site and I can confirm that we have several hundred registered parties already.

The UK competition URL http://smallbusiness.officelive.com/uk/sos resolves to https://microsoft.eprize.net/officelivesaveoursiteuk/index.tbapp

For reference, the US have a similar competition at https://microsoft.eprize.net/officelivesaveoursite/ (which resolves to https://microsoft.eprize.net/officelivesaveoursite)

Best wishes, Tim

Hmm . . .

Thanks for weighing in. For some reason, that first redirect wasn't (and still isn't) working for me (I'm in the U.S.). But it's a non-issue now that you've provided those other links, so thanks again.

It's working

It's a great competition that could really help out a few guys.  However I've noticed that like just about every other online competition this one is limited to the UK and the USA.  Makes me wonder if anyone ever realises that there are quite a few other countries out there too.

Living in South Africa we never seem to have an offer of any kind.  I imagine that we don't come close when it comes down to the number of users but it would still be nice to get a go at winning something once in a while.
