Big Business Got Federal Small Biz Contracts

Billions lined pockets of big biz, lawsuit claimed

Lloyd Chapman of the American Small Business League won a decision in federal court against the Small Business Administration, which should reveal some recipients of government small business contracts were not entitled to them.

It's hard enough to make a buck in small business without Beltway insiders locking up small business contracts for massive firms in and outside of the United States. Chapman has sued the SBA four times over disclosure of names of businesses receiving federal small business largess, to see if the money really goes to the job-creating small biz segment.

ASBL said in a statement the list of 2005 and 2006 small business contract recipients "indicates firms such as Lockheed Martin, Boeing, GTSI, Office Depot, L-3 Communications, Bechtel, and even the world's third largest defense contractor, British Aerospace and Engineering (BAE) have been the recipients of federal small business contracts."

Not exactly family-run businesses, are they?

ASBL also denounced a May 2007 SBA press release that claimed to debunk claims of big business hauling in such contracts. They called the SBA's 'Myth vs Fact' statement as "blatantly false." Chapman also claims four senior Bush Administration officials confided that contracts worth $65 billion to $110 billion per year end up with big businesses.

Democratic Presidential nomination winner Senator Barack Obama will be receiving a packet from the ASBL regarding the list of contract awards it wrested from SBA via their Freedom Of Information Act lawsuit; SBA fought releasing the names, but US District Court Judge Marilyn H. Patel sided with ASBL.

The curious among our readers who may wish to inquire, politely, of their Congressional representation about the issue have easy options to do so. Senate contact and Representative contact methods are available online.

SBA

Funny how things never change, the SBA, it seams was thrust upon us for appeasement purposes and to augment the pockets of the fat cat club.

It would be very interesting to know just how many other worthless government agencies that we could do without.
