Cost / Benefit Analysis
In a perfect world with unlimited resources, it's easy to be generous with employees. Most people (and employers are people), like to treat others right.
In reality, businesses and especially small businesses, need to weigh the costs and benefits for any investment they make.
The conclusion that I normally come to is: My best interest is served by making an employee as productive as possible. It's the right thing to do.
