Visa opens Business Network on social networking siteThe credit card issuer opened the Visa Business Network on Facebook, with an offer of $100 of targeted advertising to those who join.
Social media looks like a path to success in small business. The ability to have something catch fire with thousands of people in rapid fashion appeals greatly, and that's been a hook for marketers to interest people in such marketing.
Visa Small Business on Facebook offers an entry into social media on the heavily trafficked social networking site. Rather than the wild promise of viral popularity spreading to thousands of people, Visa wants to promote its network on Facebook as a way to reach a valuable, targeted audience.
Visa touted one feature, the Business Finder, as a way to seek out similar businesses and possibly gain advice from them. We see it as a useful method in tracking the competition and their Facebook friends, who could be ripe for a targeted campaign from your business.
Part of the Network includes advice from experts, and access to various online tools from Google Apps. But the modest ad credit Visa provides for signing up is the compelling feature. It could demonstrate, one way or another, if Facebook is right for your small business marketing plans.

Facebook is just Ok
I am a small business professional and networking can be the difference between success and failure. But I don’t get very many leads from befriending 200 strangers on Facebook. I have a group of associates I know and trust and invite them to exchange referrals on a service such as http://www.referralkey.com/ and I can then track and create new business relationships. It sounds like you and your readers could benefit from a tool that will allow you to turn those 3 or for connections into a rewarding referral network.
Not Bad. Needs Time to Grow.
I registered for this app last month to take advantage of the $100 ad credit and with the hopes of expanding my network for my printing business. Unfortunately, the $100 in ad placements didn't yield anything beneficial for me. I anticipate as this network grows I will be able to professionally network more effecively. Overall, I like the functionality and template for this ... it just needs time to grow. I am also a member of a small business organization called America's Best Companies < www.americasbestcompanies.com > that has really helped boost my online exposure and get access to some great discounts I haven't seen available through my local association. I could see this organization really taking off in the next couple of years.
RE: Not Bad. Needs Time go Gow.
Great Tip
I have a business visa card and I had not heard of the network. I'm looking forward to getting my $100.
As for the benefit of using Facebook, I have a different perspective. My goal is to have a high search ranking in the search engines especially google. One way to accomplish that is to have links to my websites from high ranking websites.
The more content I add to Facebook that links to one of my sites, the better. So Facebook has indirect benefits.
I've written about social networking on my blog BusinessOver50.com
