Study Finds Small Business Owners Happy With Their Lot

More money wouldn't tempt most away

This might not qualify as "news," as such, but it's at least a fresh and reassuring study regarding small business owners' states of mind.  The Discover company found that small business owners generally seem to be happy with what they do.

Being independently wealthy is always the best option, of course - you can run your own business and just take a drive in the Ferrari whenever things don't go right.  And on the opposite "no duh" end of things, being involuntarily unemployed is bad.

Otherwise, Andrea Coombes reports, "When asked whether they would work for someone else if that job promised more money than they currently make, 59% of small-business owners said they'd turn that job down and continue with their own business, according to the monthly survey in June of 1,000 businesses with five or fewer employees."

Another 11 percent of people weren't sure, and 30 percent would grab at the cash.

Since a little thing called capitalism tends to play a role in everyone's lives, these stats are rather amazing.  Assuming the survey's participants aren't just holding out for major personal successes, it seems as if small business owners must be a more-satisfied-than-average bunch.

Benefits of small business

I work inside client businesses on a regular basis. As a general rule the larger and older the business the more dysfunctional politics I see. Working for yourself may not be so financially rewarding, but it means you can avoid all the office politics.

In the 59%!

As someone who worked in the corporate world for over 25 years and recently turned my part-time business,  www.siskiyouwebdesign.com into a full-time endeavor, I will never go back!  It is not about the money for me, because if it were, I would still be in my job.

What I have now is the satisfaction of doing my own thing.  Oh, it is not without its ups and downs, but I am the one making the decisions now and not having them made for me.  I am free to make mistakes and learn from them and not have them made for me.  I work longer hours now, but its for me, not for someone else.  I could go on and on, lets just say, the only thing holding people back from starting their own business, is them.  Where there is a will, you will find a way.

Come join me, it is truely a lot of fun!

Fun, but a lot of work!

As a small business owner you do get to enjoy the benifits of a non-boss world, but with it comes a ton of hard work and responcibility. Yes I love not having to punch a clock but the presure to keep the work coming in can get quite stressfull at times. Now that we are the head honcho's we have to make sure our help has money to feed thier families. The best thing I love about owning my business A North Texas Termite Specialist (A.N.T.T.S) www.antts.biz is that I am putting food on someones table, it feels good to write that check sometimes, honest!
