Every business is a year-round occupationWhen your small business only has a small window of operation each year, it's important to make the most of that downtime.
Burning through all the cash you made over the summer isn't the smartest thing for students to do. A small business owner doing so with his or her peak season earnings needs a reality check.
Entrepreneur.com said there are four things a small business should do during the breaks in their usual operations. Financial discipline rates first, as expected; a few weeks or months of earnings needs to cover the remainder of the year, and that's hard to do if you're in Vegas and forgetting to split your Aces at the blackjack table because you're drinking away your profits.
Research helps one get ready for the next season's work. It's a good time to look at what worked and didn't, not only for you but for your competition. That also applied to marketing and other preparation one can be doing during the slow times.
Their last recommendation may or may not fit with an entrepreneur. A side business to occupy those off times may serve well as an additional revenue source. But if it interferes with the main business, the side work won't be worth the effort unless it's a lot more profitable. Then, maybe, it's your new regular, seasonal business instead.

Off Season
If you are a small business owner, I believe there is no off season. Even if it is just finding different ways to market your business. I am a small business owner and when I was not at a busy time I was still looking around for different options for my business. I found a website www.americasbestcompanies.com where you can join to be part of America's Best Companies. This organization is very reliable and will help you market your small business. I have received many benefits from joining.
Mid summer slump!
Hello from A North Texas Termite Specialist www.antts.biz from the Dallas / Fort Worth, TX area. In the South people may think that the pest control season would be year round, but there is always a mid summer and winter slow down period. People go on vacation, cold weather and other things do give us time to start sweating the bills. When this happens to us it gets me motivated (scared) to start looking for new ways to find clients. I hit the net and look for ways to get our website seen. I start calling past customers to see if they need further service. There is nothing worse than a quiet phone mid summer! This is the time that I really dread due to this is suppose to be when we fatten our gut for the winter. Nothing like a little show stopper slump to get your butt moving towards finding new business.
