Many small business owners are stuck with undesirable website addresses. Others don't have websites at all. The introduction of .me domain names has given both groups a good reason to get moving.
.me domain names became available a little less than two weeks ago. An initial rush to register them was messy, with people being unable to buy some names and other names (aweso.me, for example) getting purchased multiple times.
These problems have been sorted out by now, though, and the rush seems to have confirmed that .me sites will be well-regarded in the future. There shouldn't be any of the oddness that's occasionally associated with .net domain names, in other words, and it won't be as if businesses in one country are sending users to a website associated with another.
A certain corporation that's known for its Super Bowl commercials even stated, "In the first 24 hours of registration, Go Daddy successfully registered more than 20,000 .ME names, making it the most successful new domain launch in Go Daddy's history." So businesses will have a significant amount of company.

The one thing owners might want to keep in mind is whether a .me domain name represents a significant improvement over whatever website they already operate. All interest in new and shiny things aside, it's not always in a company's best interest to spring things on customers, and the act of switching a point of contact needs to be approached with special care.

.me Domain Names Are GREAT
I am totally not surprised that the .me domain names are doing well. Who doesn't want a website that is all about them? Besides .com I think .me will do GREAT!! Most people normally just type in .com but now that there is a domain name that is all about me people are going to be VERY curious to go to a certain .me website to see what is going on there.
Of course only time will tell if the .me maintains it's popularity.

Why are we talking about an either or situation here. I can see how and why a .me domain would be valuable, but don't abandon ship with .com just to climb aboard a .me domain.
Consider this, if you open a blog and a website with the same relevant content and then bring them together as one each helps the other grow.
If you agree with the above then wouldn't it make sense that linking your .com & blog with a .me domain will return nothing but net (so to speak).
Of course you are going to want relevant content from all websites involved, not to mention a forum as well which just gave me a brilliant idea that I'll give you for free.
You have your blog updating relevant content on a frequent basis.
You have your website that is easy to navigate.
When not open a .me website strictly for your forum base and link it to both your blog and website.
What would be the result?

If you've been in this business for any time at all you know that backlinks are more valuable than swap links today. And you end up building yourself a massive empire of backlinks the white hat way.

I think that .me names do allow people to have more creative and fun URL's but agree with some of the comments earlier that some of them can be quite off-putting (especially the ruder ones) I did a little search one the evening that they first got released and found that a lot of them had already been taken...obviously the big company ones such as Digg.me went immediately i would have thought! .me does allow people to be alot more personal with their URL names and as such i think will be better suited to Blog sites and the like.

Like all the rest that came into the scene it is a FAD or media hype and nothing more. Sure godaddy bought or sold tons in the first day, oh joy. What about the next day and aside from that just how many are there. They are sure to run into the same issue. What .me tells me is you could not get a .com so you went for second best or in this case 5th best.
When buying a domain name you should focus on what is good for your company and not what everyone else is doing or what the latest trend is as has been evident with the 70's and bell bottom jeans. Trends/Fads come and go just as quick and sure they may surface again but not untill some 20+ years later.
