Article site an opportunity to find qualified customersSearch industry professionals are heading to Google's Knol article creation service to boost their presence online, a move small business types should follow.
Despite Google's claims to the contrary, some entries on its Knol site already place well in the search results. Hitting the top ten for a query for your site means better traffic, something any entrepreneur should want.
Google says knol means a unit of knowledge, and they have trademarked the term with that definition. The open model for creating documents within Knol, and aiming their links at your site, should make working on something for Knol a priority for the online business.
Anita Campbell at Small Business Trends demonstrated this, by creating a Knol on the size of the small business market. That Knol's first two outbound links head to another Campbell site on small business.
After that her links are a mix of resources she does and doesn't control. Links after those first two go to authoritative small business sources at the Small Business Administration and the Census Bureau, before later links in the Knol to her sites again.
Knol presents a nice opportunity for small business pros who already contribute knowledge online to another site that could drive traffic their way. Posting useful content for other searchers helps build a brand, and the investment of time on Knol could lead to more conversions.
