As postage rates continue to rise, many small business owners are finding that it is digging into their advertising budgets.

InfoUSAPoll.com polled small business executives around the U.S. recently asking if the postage increase would affect their advertising.

- 43 % (451 respondents) said yes, it would affect advertising.

- 36% (372 respondents) said no it would not affect advertising.

- 21% (214 respondents) said it does not apply.

As rates continue to go up, I would not be surprised to see an increase in Internet advertising, which is flourishing by the way.

If you do any amount of direct mail marketing though, I don't see how the postage hikes can not have an impact on your advertising budget. I have to take a wild guess and say that those who responded to the poll saying that it would not affect advertising and that it does not apply don't utilize this method (at least not to a great extent).

This is a method that should not be overlooked though, provided you can still afford the postage. It is a great way, particularly for brick and mortar businesses, to reach their potential local customers with coupons and deals that will attract them to their stores.
