Some nice poetry has been written about the path less traveled, and small businesses tend to be somewhat unique.  We'll set those facts aside for a moment, though, because SCORE is celebrating an impressive statistic involving eight million entrepreneurs.

The volunteer organization, which has been around since 1964, has helped eight million individuals "through face-to-face and online mentoring and workshops," according to an official statement.

This amounts to over 1.1 million hours of assistance rendered, which at a rate of $150 per hour, would come out to somewhere around $165 million.  Except that SCORE does its work for free.

SCORE Board Chair Paul Kopelcheck stated, "Every entrepreneur should take the opportunity to connect with a SCORE mentor.  During challenging economic times, it's particularly important to round out your skills with another perspective."

We won't vote for or against that suggestion; you can go it alone or add to the group of eight million as you please.  The SCORE milestone seemed worth noting, though, and as a related point, a hat tip goes to Ana Patricia Ferrey.
