Video Helps, But Use It Wisely

Marketing, brand reinforcement come from effective video use

The potential of video in social media for building and enhancing customer relationships should be balanced in its use.

Once upon a time, there was no effective solution for video online. Now, millions of people watch tens of millions of video streams all over the world.

Video has its place in small business, for those who have the time and resources to dedicate to making it a complementary part of their sites. Small Busines Informer likes it for marketing, SEO, and social networking strategies.

Marketing has its place, with even the most minimal spender with a successful business enjoying at least word of mouth delivering leads and reinforcing the brand. Video presents another way of doing so.

We see another important place for video, demonstrated by sites like Ask The Builder. The current economy lends itself to a do-it-yourself ethic to save money on common tasks; video shines in how it can communicate instructions to others.

Some sites, especially blogs enamored with the video format, present a lot of their content that way. We're not big fans of that approach. Text may not be sexy but it works well for most content, with images and video filling needs too.

A well-made instructional video likely has a place for many small businesses. If it goes viral within the niche audience for the business, it's a nice boost to reputation and possibly a traffic driver as well. But the first focus should be on serving an obvious customer need. Doing that well serves as a potent marketing force.

The Importance Of Videos

I suppose as direct content I would have to agree with your take on videos.  And to that extent circulated videos need to...

* have a professional image
* be tightly focused upon your niche audience
* have an end goal and purpose for being created

However, to conclude that the only purpose of video is for content is in my opinion to be short sighted.

First, it doesn't take much research to understand that in today's market backlinks are more valuable than swaplinks.  With a back link, someone provides a link back to your website without thought of you linking back to them.

Done right you can have a multtude of backlinks created from videos just as is possible in article marketing or Web 2.0 strategies.  While I would not encourage a person to rely just on video backlins for their marketing efforts the value they add to the equation is without queston.

Second, pulling several top similar videos together on a socical network like MySpace or Facebook helps you to build authority of  given niche topic.  People come to understand that you are an expert in the field especially if you add other content like wiriting, audio &/or picture.  Being reconginzed as a niche expert can be nothing but good if you are looking for an audience.  Perhaps that's why I created the viral video website concept which I would be more than glad to explain more about in E-mail.

With that said, video is critical to a successful Internet Marketing effortt.  It's important also for website content, but it's real value neither starts nor stops in the topic of content alone.
