As I talked about last week, security is one very important factor in gaining customer trust, particularly online.

So where does that fall in your budget?

For SMBs in India, it's going to be pretty prominent. According to a study from Access Markets International (AMI), they will be spending about US$289 Million on data security this year.

 "Protection from ever increasing electronic threats is the biggest driver for adoption of security solutions by India SMBs," says Abhilash DB, Analyst at AMI-Partners.

"India SMBs are realizing that having an effective security policy will boost their chances securing a link within global supply chains. That's because web-enabled activities in day to day business makes an organization highly prone to security threats,"  added Abhilash.

AMI says that SMBs are the most vulnerable segment of all businesses when it comes to security.

Where does that leave your business?

It's not just about gaining customer trust either. If you have security problems, you may have bigger fish to fry than that concern - fish like theft and security of important data that is the backbone of your business.

A study from a couple months back showed a lack of IT staff on the part of small businesses. If you are one of these with such a lack, I think you have some issues to address.
