VCs Trying to Pay for Legislation?

Naturally, the ASBL is there to point it out...

The ever-watchful eye of the American Small Business League (ASBL) has issued a press release today spreading awareness of the latest happenings in Venture Capital firms dealing with small business-related government entities.

According to the ASBL, the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) has given a lot of contributions to members of the House and Senate small business committees in an effort to persuade them into passing legislation that would allow wealthy VCs to cash in on small business contracts from the government - something that's been going on for quite some time already according to the ASBL's past gripes.

Of course this is only one side of the story, but it pretty clearly sounds like bribery based on the ASBL's words.

What has seemed like a pretty solid line dividing Republican and Democratic interests seems to be becoming a little blurry.

"Senator Kerry has been complaining for years about loopholes and Bush Administration policies that allow Fortune 500 firms to receive federal small business contracts. Yet, he has done nothing to stop that problem," said ASBL President Lloyd Chapman. "Now he is backing federal legislation to give small business contracts to venture capital firms and billionaires."

"I couldn't be more disappointed in this Congress and it's leaders," added Chapman.
