Big Businesses Can Now More Easily Pretend to be Small

...and get in on small business contracts.

It's amazing how often these stories keep popping up. Granted, the source is always the same - the American Small Business League (ASBL), and they clearly have an agenda. That agenda seems to be a pretty noble one as far as small business is concerned though, and if no one else is highlighting what is going on in the government with regards to small business contracts, we'll be all ears of what the ASBL has to say about it.

Today, the ASBL is pointing out a new Bush Administration policy that will allegedly make it easier for large businesses to land government contracts, by misrepresenting themselves as small businesses. With this new policy, companies won't even have to disclose their annual revenue or number of employees in the registration database.

If everything the ASBL has been reporting is true, then it seems as though the government just doesn't want to differentiate between small companies and larger ones. This is pretty much a slap in the face of small businesses, and lends to the notion that greed is really the motivator for legislation on the issue.

Just a mere two days ago the ASBL noted that the National Venture Capital Association is giving contributions to many of the members of the House and Senate Small Business committees, apparently even reaching John Kerry who once seemed opposed to such interests.

Go back a couple more weeks, and the Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship passed a bill that would allow large venture capital firms to get in on small business contracts.

Of course, you can keep digging and find a timeline of similar stories all pointing to the dismantling of small business contracting programs.

As more information develops on the matter, it is a pretty safe bet that the ASBL will keep us informed.

Oh my...

They even say that they take 100 million US dollars out of our tax money, this is a major issue....

Rise up, small businesses

Big business may have the cash, but small businesses have more votes. It is important that small business owners counter these financial contributions to Senators and Representatives by making sure that their voices are heard. Write your Congressman or Senator and tell them to support small businesses.

Hopeful this will change our economy

I don't think this will work if we take that approach but hey but who said that impossible is nothing

all is possible

Thanks for this great post, this is very useful and interesting.
