Banks, credit cards, and whatever's stashed under your mattress are all options when it comes time to raise money.  Soon enough, though, another source will add itself to that list: UPS.

Yes, the delivery company that dresses its employees in all-brown clothing is going to offer at least some loans to small businesses.  A program called Cargo Finance is "aimed at helping small customers that need funds to keep their product orders flowing," according to Matthew Boyle.

Further details are a little scarce right now - the program isn't supposed to be officially announced until tomorrow.  However, Boyle was able to report that the average loan should be about $150,000 in size, which seems like a generous enough sum.

This is an odd move for UPS - handing out money doesn't have much to do with shipping packages.  The timing is questionable, too, given recent trends in real estate, employment, and the stock markets.  Still, whether the program works or not in the long-term, small business owners should enjoy having another alternative when they're seeking loans.
